Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: The Leader Who Shaped Iran’s Doctrine of Resistance

Iran’s Supreme Leader has been killed in a joint US-Israeli air strike.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in a joint military strike carried out by the United States and Israel. He was 86 years old. Iranian state media confirmed his death early Sunday, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that Khamenei had been targeted in a coordinated air strike on his compound.

Tasnim News Agency reported that “His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, was martyred in the joint attack launched by America and the Zionist regime.” According to state media, his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson were also killed in the strike.

President Trump stated that Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials “could not escape US intelligence and advanced tracking systems.”

A Leadership Forged in Conflict

Ali Khamenei assumed leadership of Iran in 1989 following the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founding leader of the Islamic Republic. While Khomeini was the ideological architect of the 1979 revolution, it was Khamenei who consolidated and institutionalized the system, strengthening its security and military foundations.

Before becoming Supreme Leader, Khamenei served as Iran’s president during the 1980s and led the country through the devastating Iran-Iraq War. The conflict, coupled with Western backing of Saddam Hussein at the time, deeply shaped his distrust of the West—particularly the United States.

Military Consolidation and the “Resistance Economy”

Under Khamenei’s rule, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) evolved into a powerful security, political, and economic institution. The IRGC played a central role not only in defending Iran but also in shaping its regional influence.

Khamenei promoted the concept of a “resistance economy,” aimed at reducing dependence on foreign powers and strengthening domestic capabilities in the face of Western sanctions.

Domestic Challenges

His leadership faced significant internal challenges. The disputed 2009 presidential election sparked the Green Movement protests, which were met with a harsh crackdown. In 2019, nationwide demonstrations erupted over rising fuel prices.

In 2022, protests spread across the country following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, drawing international attention and criticism over the government’s response. Human rights groups reported hundreds of deaths during the unrest.

Nuclear Deal and Rising Tensions

In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with world powers, agreeing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. However, in 2018, President Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement, reigniting tensions.

Iran later resumed uranium enrichment activities, further escalating disputes with Washington.

The “Axis of Resistance”

Khamenei expanded Iran’s regional strategy through what became known as the “Axis of Resistance,” supporting allied groups including Hezbollah, Hamas, Syrian leadership, and armed factions in Iraq.

Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, was a key architect of this strategy until he was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad in 2020.

After the events of October 7, 2023, and the ensuing Israel-Hamas war, regional instability intensified. Israel expanded military operations in Gaza and targeted Hezbollah and Syrian positions.

On June 13, 2025, Israel launched major strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and senior commanders. Iran responded with missile attacks on Tel Aviv. Escalation continued, culminating on February 28, 2026, when President Trump announced a “major combat operation” and signaled support for regime change in Iran.

Hours later, Iranian state media confirmed that Ali Khamenei had been killed in a joint US-Israeli strike.

A Turning Point for Iran

Khamenei’s death marks a profound turning point in Iran’s modern history. Over more than three decades, he shaped the country’s defense doctrine, regional alliances, and confrontational stance toward the United States and Israel.

His passing raises urgent questions about Iran’s political future—whether the country will continue along the path of resistance or move toward a new phase of negotiation and transformation.

Southern California aur Fresno area ke viewers ke liye aaj dopahar ek badi breaking news saamne aayi. Iran ke Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ki maut ho gayi hai.

Donald Trump ne daawa kiya hai ke unhein raat bhar chalne wali ek massive airstrike campaign mein maar diya gaya, jo America aur Israel ne mil kar launch ki.

Airstrikes ka aaghaz

Reports ke mutabiq, California time ke mutabiq raat 11 baje ke qareeb strikes shuru hui. Iran ke kam az kam chhe shehron ko nishana banaya gaya, jin mein dar-ul-hukumat Tehran bhi shamil hai.

President Trump ne social media par post karte hue Khamenei ko “history ke sab se bure afrad mein se ek” qarar diya aur kaha ke heavy aur pinpoint bombing campaign jaari rahegi jab tak administration ka objective hasil nahi ho jata.

Unka kehna tha ke is military action ka maqsad “American awam ko Iranian regime se paida hone wale imminent threats se bachana” hai.

Iran ka jawabi hamla

Iran ne bhi foran jawab diya. Reports ke mutabiq drones aur missiles ke zariye Israel aur U.S. assets ko nishana banaya gaya, jin mein military bases bhi shamil hain.

Is ke ilawa Iran ne un mumalik ki taraf bhi drones launch kiye jinhein wo America ka hami samajhta hai — jin mein Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain aur Jordan shamil hain.

Kuch U.S. officials ka kehna hai ke Iran ab military sites ke bajaye civilians ko target kar raha hai, jo ke situation ko mazeed sangin bana raha hai.

Nuclear program par tanazaa

Yeh military action Iran ke nuclear program par chalne wali nakaam negotiations ke baad saamne aaya. President Trump ne pehle bhi baar baar kaha tha ke Iran ko nuclear weapon hasil karne ki ijazat nahi di ja sakti.

Halaanke, U.S. intelligence ka andaza tha ke Tehran kam az kam nau saal tak aisi missile develop karne ki salahiyat nahi rakhta jo seedha America tak pohanch sake.

Congressional approval ka masla

Is hamle ke liye President ne Congress se formal approval nahi liya. Lekin Secretary of State Marco Rubio ne top congressional leaders ko pehle hi brief kar diya tha.

President ne Saudi Arabia, Qatar aur UAE ke leaders ke sath phone par baat ki, aur NATO ke Secretary General se bhi rabta kiya. White House is hafte detailed briefings arrange kar raha hai.

Agla qadam kya hoga?

Iran mein Khamenei ki 36 saal ki hukoomat ka is tarah khatma Middle East ki siyasat mein bari tabdeeli la sakta hai. America ke mukhtalif shehron mein log is military action ke haq aur mukhalfat mein rallies kar rahe hain.

Ab sab se bara sawal yeh hai ke Iran mein siyasi leadership ka future kya hoga, aur kya yeh conflict ek full-scale regional war mein tabdeel ho sakta hai.

Situation tezi se badal rahi hai aur duniya bhar ki nazrein ab Middle East par markooz hain.
